Sanctuary Renovation Update - May 1st

The following is a brief update from Dickie Thompson of the construction activities that have taken place in the Sanctuary since the Administrative Board approved the project on Wednesday April 23, 2008. On Sunday afternoon April 20, 2008 after the last 11AM church service approximately 27 ASP youth and 10 adults started removing the bibles, hymn books, and papers from the Sanctuary for storage. The pew cushions were also removed and will be stored off site. The old red carpeting was pulled up and disposed.

The week of April 21-25 was a busy one. All the pews were removed. They will be stored in Clinton, NC where they will be refinished before returning in the fall. The organ was removed as well as the walls that surrounded the pipes. Most of the major demolition has been done with the exception of the asbestos abatement which will start on Monday May 5th. The asbestos floor tile will be removed first followed by the plaster ceilings and soffits. This work should take approximately 2 weeks.

A testing lab will be used to check the area to make sure we are “asbestos free” and the area is safe for all.

The Evangelism committee is proud to sponsor a new ministry entitled The Journey .  It provides a forum for our members to share personal experiences as we live into our vision of living as Disciples of Christ.  We pray that this ministry will allow our members to get to know each other better and connect to one another in a deep and meaningful way.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

  • The Habit of Enjoying Adversity
We have to develop godly habits to express what God’s grace has done in us. It is not just a question of being saved from hell, but of being saved so that "the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body." And it is adversity that makes us
