Greeters | Greeters |
The Greeters serve HBUMC and the visiting community by extending Christ’s welcome. Greeters are present on Sunday’s for congregational worship at both the 8:30am service and the 11:00am service. The goal of a greeter is to provide an inviting welcome at the entrance and to assist both members and visitors with the transition into worship. Through these actions, Evangelism celebrates Christ in fellowship and mission.
Detailed Description: Greeters serve those in the Hayes Barton UMC community by offering a friendly welcome. This welcome is extended from the parking lot to the pew. The Sunday ministry of greeters extends Christ’s kindness so that each person who comes into worship knows that they are loved. Such kindness may pave the way for a deeper understanding of Christ’s compassion and love. By providing a one-to one greeting for each individual this ministry insures that each person receives a personal expression. This hand shake or warm smile may be the only personal encounter a visitor receives on a busy, crowded Sunday. This ministry of kindness is based on the following biblical admonitions (to name a few):
The Evangelism Ministry can offer opportunities for all HBUMC members to participate in this ministry of kindness. Participation needs to be encouraged by elevating the status of “greeter” and providing support and instruction to those individuals and families that desire to serve in this way. The gifts of kindness and compassion are particularly fitting for a greeter. Service Opportunity: The Evangelism Committee asks individuals and families to sign up for a few Sundays each year. We ask that these volunteers serve four Sundays in a year requiring a approximately 30 minutes of service per Sunday. Spiritual Gifts: Compassion, helping, and giving (Spiritual gift source: UMC.org ) |
