The Crucifixion | The Crucifixion |
![]() Given in memory of her mother Mrs. Mary Brewer Bostick by Mrs. Ralph Stephens The scene here shows Mary, mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and John before the cross. “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved, standing near, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold thy son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.” John 19: 26-27 (RSV) On each side are the other crosses, and at the foot of the cross the thorn bush is pictured rather than the crown of thorns. At the top of the window, the clouds are covering the sun as darkness begins to fall upon the scene. In the lower portion of the window the scourging of Christ is depicted by the pillar to which he was tied, the whip with its thongs which lashed him, as well as the spear which pierced his side. |
