The Prophecy of Isaiah

Image
In memory of their parents by Mr. & Mrs. Harold E. Eckert
The Christian year begins with the season of Advent, a time of prepa- ration, expectation and anticipation. The Advent Window celebrates both God as omnipotent and almighty and the messianic prophecy found in the book of Isaiah.

The central figure in this window is the prophet Isaiah. When he said to God that he was not worthy to prophesy to the people, God sent down an angel who, with tongs, lifted a burning coal to Isaiah’s lips, empowering him to speak God’s message. The message that he brings is shown as the Holy Child, pictured in the manger as well as on the Cross, representing both the birth and death of Jesus Christ. The word Emmanuel means “God with us.” The group of figures on the right represents people from all walks of life as the recipients of the message. At the top of the window is pictured the angel of the Lord, and in the lower part of the window we see the burning fire and tongs along with the word Emmanuel.
