Evangelism Overview
The Evangelism Ministry serves our community in four primary areas:

  • Reaching Out
  • Visitor Experience
  • New Member Integration
  • Personal Development

Reaching Out
We seek to inform the greater community about HBUMC and what we have to offer.  We employ media such as web, direct mail, Yellow Pages, Newspaper, Radio, and newsletter to inform about traditional and special events.  Additionally, our most effective form of reaching out to the community is through the word of mouth from our members.  We encourage this communication and seek ways to enable it.

Visitor Experience
We are a warm and welcoming congregation and want to ensure that a visitor’s experience is positive.  We utilize programs like Greeters, Body Builders, Welcome Center, and Pew Greeters to ensure that a personal connection is made.

New Member Integration
It is important that new members are given the opportunity to get involved and apply their God given spiritual gifts in the life of the church.  We offer a new member class that provides an opportunity to learn our history, meet the staff, and learn more about our church.  Our Fellowship Friends program offers a one to one connect from an existing member/family to the new member/family.  This is a shepherding relationship that seeks to ensure the new member(s) are guided personally through church life after joining.  Additionally, we conduct a Gateway to Service inventory that seeks to match member’s interests with areas for involvement.

Personal Connection
Community is an essential part of the life at HBUMC.  We invite personal connections with others through opportunities get to know each other, through the sharing of life experiences, and by encouraging each other to live authentically.

Body Builders
Volunteers contact first-time visitors with a brief doorstep visit to deliver information about the church. Volunteers are assigned four Sundays during one year to serve. This is a rewarding opportunity for members to share their enthusiasm for Christ and for the fellowship of HBUMC.

Greeters
The Greeters serve HBUMC and the visiting community by extending Christ’s welcome. Greeters are present on Sunday’s for congregational worship at both the 8:30am service and the 11:00am service. The goal of a greeter is to provide an inviting welcome at the entrance and to assist both members and visitors with the transition into worship. Through these actions, Evangelism celebrates Christ in fellowship and mission.
