Sanctuary Renovation Update - September 4th The main focus of our work for the past 6 weeks has been centered on installing the pipe conduits for the new sound, AV, and lighting systems which we hope to finish up this week. The installation of the sheetrock on the side soffits and balcony ceiling will be finished this week which will allow us to begin the finishing process. The plastering work is continuing and is giving the Sanctuary a “new” look now that the brick has been covered over. Millwork and cabinets should start in a few more weeks and the slate flooring should begin around the 1st of October. Sanctuary Renovation Update - July 11th Much has been happening over the past few weeks in the Sanctuary renovation. The big ductwork that goes down both sides of the Sanctuary has been installed and the metal stud framing that surrounds it is almost complete. The plastering work has begun and is progressing nicely. The concrete Chancel extension and new steps has been poured which makes a noticeable difference. The balcony ceiling will be framed next week.Sanctuary Renovation Update - June 3rd The structural support framing for the extended Chancel area has been completed and now you can see how much larger the Chancel will be. HVAC work is continuing in the basement and the large ductwork for the Sanctuary will be delivered on the 4th of June. The foyer ceiling has been framed and the support beams for the new font will be set this week. A new design to incorporate the newly discovered balcony window is still be considered. Sanctuary Renovation Update - May 19th Last week the last of the asbestos was removed from the building and the testing lab gave us a total clearance meaning we are asbestos free. This week we will be removing the old HVAC ductwork in the Sanctuary and start installing the new ductwork. We will also begin framing the Sacristy Room walls and the new extended Chancel area. The big surprise came when the balcony ceiling was removed it was discovered that an existing window that had been previously covered up was now letting in sunshine. Sanctuary Renovation Update - May 1st The following is a brief update from Dickie Thompson of the construction activities that have taken place in the Sanctuary since the Administrative Board approved the project on Wednesday April 23, 2008. On Sunday afternoon April 20, 2008 after the last 11AM church service approximately 27 ASP youth and 10 adults started removing the bibles, hymn books, and papers from the Sanctuary for storage. The pew cushions were also removed and will be stored off site. The old red carpeting was pulled up and disposed. The week of April 21-25 was a busy one. All the pews were removed. They will be stored in Clinton, NC where they will be refinished before returning in the fall. The organ was removed as well as the walls that surrounded the pipes. Most of the major demolition has been done with the exception of the asbestos abatement which will start on Monday May 5th. The asbestos floor tile will be removed first followed by the plaster ceilings and soffits. This work should take approximately 2 weeks. A testing lab will be used to check the area to make sure we are “asbestos free” and the area is safe for all. |
