![]() TOTE BAG CONSTRUCTION TO BENEFIT HBUMC MISSIONS If you can cut a straight line or sew a straight stitch you can help HBUMC raise funds for Missions. This project is ongoing through the fall of 2010. The Environmental Educators of NC (EENC) has contracted with HBUMC to construct 1,000 tote bags made from retired work shirts. The totes will be given out at a future conference and serve as “goodie bags” for participants. EENC chose to re-purpose these shirts into bags instead of ordering a new product from China. HBUMC will be paid $5.00 for each completed bag and all proceeds go towards Missions. In 2009 several members constructed 200 tote bags and our church was presented a check for $1,000. This next phase gives us the opportunity to raise $5,000 in 2010. HOW TO HELP: you can cut and/or sew at your own home or you can organize a group to work at the church. This is a perfect project for Circles and Sunday Schools. Be a small part of a large project. You will be provided with instructions and materials to make the tote bags. You may choose to only cut. Or you may choose to only sew. Or, you can do both. The only thing you need to provide is thread for sewing. Contact the following people to receive a kit of 25 shirts or to schedule someone to show your group how to proceed:
