New Member Class
Do you want to join Hayes Barton or find out more about Hayes Barton? If the answer is yes, the New Member Class is for you. This class is conducted in such a way as not to pressure anyone to join but to inform and educate about Methodism and Hayes Barton UMC. There are several opportunities each year to participate in a class. There are 4 weeks of classes during the Sunday School hour (9:50am-10:50) followed by an opportunity to join the church on the 5th Sunday. During this time you will be paired with a “Fellowship Friend” that will pray for you and assist you in getting involved in activities at Hayes Barton.

Putting The Pieces Together
Week 1: “What Does it Mean to Claim the Name Christian?” This session deals with matters of general Christian faith and belief. We will look at what Methodists distinctively profess and the basis of John Wesley’s theology.

Week 2: “About Being United Methodist” We will Discuss Methodist polity, the connectional system, and matters of Methodist doctrine.

Week 3: " Your Spiritual Gifts" Where do you fit into Christ’s Body, the Church? The answer lies in the unique gifts that God has given you. We hope this class will help understand what your gifts are and how to effectively use them in your life and your life here at Hayes Barton.

Week 4: “Meet the Staff” Church staff and lay leadership will meet with the class to discuss HBUMC’s programs, services, and ministry outreach.

Week 5: “By Our Prayers, Presence, Gifts, and Service” Conversation will center around the meaning of our church membership vows. What does it mean to you to pledge yourself to this body of Christ through your prayers, presence, gifts and service?


If you decide to join, what vows do you take?

All who choose to join the United Methodist Church at Hayes Barton join through:

  • Baptism and Confession of faith or
  • Transfer of membership from another United Methodist Church or another denomination of faith.

It is our hope that you will grow with us in your discipleship so as to further Christ’s mission and ministry in our community and in the world.

  • 2008 - January 20, 27, Feburary 3, 10, 17 - Opportunity to join on February 24th at 11 am service
