Hayes Barton Methodist Preschool is an important part of the Christian Education program of the church. The school provides a Christian witness and service to the Church family and the community by providing preschool programs for young children. It began in 1986 and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The school’s calendar year generally begins after Labor Day and ends before Memorial Day. Preschool hours are from 9:30 – 12:30pm, with 4-year-olds eligible to stay for lunch bunch from 12:30-1:30 pm two days a week.
Hayes Barton United Methodist Preschool believes that children learn through concrete learning experiences and small classroom situations, so we provide a low teacher to student ratio classroom and strive to build on a child’s strengths. Realizing the importance of a child’s good self-esteem in the early years, the preschool will provide activities in which all children can succeed. The preschool curriculum shall include activities that will enhance the student’s developmental skills in the following areas: fine and gross motor skills, self-help skills, social and emotional development, speech and language, and cognitive development. The school day will include a free play activity period, group time, snack, and outdoor play. Hayes Barton Preschool will provide a warm and loving atmosphere where Christian principles are put into practice by the teachers. The children will participate in a music and movement program and a weekly chapel service to familiarize them with group worship. The goal of Hayes Barton Preschool is to nurture each child to grow in mind, body, and spirit, and continue to be the special person that God created.
