Jesus was at the height of success. Great crowds were following him. It would be easy to feel encouraged and satisfied and excited about future prospects. So what does Jesus say? The last thing you would expect in such a situation! Far from encouraging the crowd, Jesus’ words can be discouraging. Jesus is not trying to dissuade us, but He is telling it like it is. Jesus needs men and women who have counted the cost of discipleship and who are committed to following Him regardless of the cost.
