We can pray as hard and as long as we know how to pray: “Lead us not into temptation,” but we will not escape it. Every day, often in seemingly subtle, harmless ways, we will hear the voice that will encourage us to seek our own self-interest, to ignore those around us and to clutter up the spaces of our soul with meaningless and worthless junk, so there is no room left inside for God.
