Among the qualities of a God who created us, who gives us life in all its dimensions, and who blesses us with the new life of God’s realm is that God is free to act in ways that may not meet our standards of “fairness.” God is free to do as God chooses in bestowing the gifts of new life. As a result, there is a marvelous unfairness in the way the gifts of God are given to us.
