Sermon - "A Slicing Story"
Written by Laura Fine Ledford
Sunday, 11 October 2009

A rich young man approaches Jesus, asking, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus says to him, "sell what you own, give it to the poor, come and follow me." The young man turns and walks away. When we hear these words from Jesus, they slice into us and force us to wrestle with our own desire to possess, to own, to hoard. Would we, too, have walked away? What word of hope lives for us within this difficult text?
