 | I am director for the weekday preschool program involving 139 children and 25 staff members which runs from September until May. I ensure that the school meets the requirements set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and am responsible for providing a Christian atmosphere where each child learns about the special world we live in and what a special person he/she is. Our goal is to prepare every child for success in elementary school education. I've been on the HBUMC staff for the last 8 years. | Amy Mattheis

I have been married to Joe for 20 years and have 2 boys, 12 and 15 years old. I graduated from N C State with a masters degree, having also worked there for 10 years. I love baseball, knitting, and most of all, spending time with my family and dog, Jesse.Defining Moment
I have had the opportunity to live and witness many forms of worship styles, having been raised a Presbyterian and Baptist and having been part of Episcopal, Church of Christ, and Assemblies of God churches. I was baptized as a baby and an adult, married a Lutheran, and became a Methodist. I have learned through these varied styles of worship, that while they are all very different, they are all ways to worship God, and we are all Christians called to serve and worship God. The greatest challenge in my spiritual journey has been the recent loss of my sister's husband, a minister and true disciple of Christ. While we will never understand why his life was so short, it being the biggest test of my faith, I have realized that through this event, more than ever, that the Lord is my Savior and that I can do all things through Him. |
