 | | As the Organist, I provide organ music for all worship services in Sanctuary, including seasonal services for Holy Week and Lent. Play the organ for weddings and funerals in consultation with brides and bereaved. Work with vendors to maintain the organ until it can be replaced. Work with the organ sub-committee of the building committee and various consultants to ensure the replacement organ is high quality, high variety, and clearly communicated to the congregation. Plan worship in consultation with the Sr. Pastor and Director and Music and Worship Arts. Participate in worship committee meetings. This is a part-time position, though it sometimes feels like more than that.

On a Personal Note David Witt has extensive experience managing system software development for aerospace, retail, and network management industries. As an executive at IBM, he managed the operations of the Networking Software Division that included software testing, media, process, quality, reengineering, and matrix management of the international executive staff. After retiring from IBM, he became a management consultant specializing in change management, technical operations, issue resolution, and organizational development. Two of his largest consulting projects were issue management for a large international company’s conversion to year 2000 and serving as interim President/CEO for the Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh, NC.
David is also a church and concert organist, a composer, and a music editor/arranger. He has recorded two CDs to benefit Methodist Home for Children and has served two terms as President of the local American Guild of Organists’ chapter. He has also edited the midi-pro files for the first commercially available recording produced in Zenph Studios’ facility. David is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, the IBM Systems Research Institute, and the IBM Systems Research Institute for Programming Managers. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh, NC and of Zenph Studios in Raleigh, NC. He was a founding board member and treasurer of the North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute. He is married to Patricia, also retired from IBM, who is a professional and civic project manager. David and Pat own a consulting business providing services in their areas of specialty.
Defining Moment Over ten years ago, I attended a walk to Emmaus and had a revelation in the text to “That Name” by Bill and Gloria Gaither. The phrase, “Kings and Kingdoms shall all pass away, but there’s something about that name,” gave me conviction that making more $ at IBM should not be my Kingdom. I retired from IBM at age 54 to pursue a more active music ministry as well as greater involvement with non-profit corporations.
Final Thoughts I am grateful for my wife, Pat, who has allowed me to spend much time away from her and family to pursue serving God through music. We have talented daughter and wonderful son-in-law (Susan and Mark), who are doing a marvelous job rearing our grandchildren, Koty and Paxton. |
